You need a tach of some sort.

Seriously.   I wouldn't build anything until you get to a race.  Or look at some racers in person.

i would like to but all the races are an hour and a half away from me. other than asking the drivers questions, what benefits would i get seeing one in person as opposed to watching build videos and pics on the web? i have already started building my mower according to uslmra gp rules.

Nothing is like seeing it in person. But feel free to ask any questions. If you've just started building, post pictures as you go along and we can tell you if your missing something.
Like Paul said, you need a tach. If your racing GP, it's not an option!!

Yep. Go out and win over the hearts of fans.
Spend 5 times as much money as they will give you.

Wanna learn new stuff? Watch Ed, and see all the new stuff he can break. Buy me a beer and I may even introduce you to him so that he may insult you in person.

Of course, we won't be in Tampico, birth place of Ronald Reagan, but that's their loss.

Bert

Gary Busey and Rick James both used to live in my shop. Redline stole them.

heres my mowchine
this is my powerplant
this is where the wheel hub connects to the axle.
i plan on putting a spindle in the trans-axle to lock the rear end so i can mount the disc brakes to the hub.
heres the steering gears.
i plan on making it direct steering because i plan on putting the brake lever on the steering wheel.

#1 - If you destroy that irreplaceable antique by making it into a racing mower...I will never talk to you again!

#2 - Now you know why Paul told you to go to a race....You have nothing there you can use to make a racing mower. If you do, it will not be fast!

Actually...I just may send a hit man to your house to save that baby....Whoever ruined the paint job on it needs a good lashing already.
