rpms on stick or clay track
« on: July 01, 2014, 08:15:04 pm »
Last weekend I went to iowa did good when it was dusty out but when it was sticky I didn't do so good. I was pushing 5200 rpms. I built this motor with wild cam in it and able to hit 8000rpms with out blowing up. Honestly I don't think my motor was even close to power band when it was sticky im using cheeta grind I think it hits 7500rpms. So I was wondering if that's what im suppost to run for rpms if its wild cam and not a mild cam.

Have you considered gear experimentation?

I have been to tracks where it was dry slick one day and ran one ratio the next it wet and sticky and add as many as 8 teeth to the year to get back in the range I want. Same gear dont always work all the time. Gotta carry alot of gears and use the tach if your gonna be that serious. Tach is a must its not a guessing game like it was even 4 years ago. Back in the day 2000 thru 2007 I bet I would change gears 2 or 3 times a season. Since Like at the All american theres been times I have a different gear everytime it hit the track chasing the track.

yes I have tried experimenting 7500 or more you basicly drag racing pull hard down the straights. cant barly turn. You go to low 5200 you don't have enough torq to go down the straights. Im thinking about going back 7000 range just take time in corner.

When I was helping Ryan Kerr and we ran Vanguards,we ran between 10000 and 12000 rpm at most of the races, never broke a rod but sometimes a camshaft and that would destroy almost everything
