Rev Limiters Available
« on: March 04, 2011, 11:34:26 am »
As some of you know, I have designed and tested a Rev Limiter with a versatile tachometer output
for mower engines.

I had to turn down some of you that wanted to order because I got behind in
production and didn't think it was fair for you to have to wait.

I am now caught up and can produce units faster and more efficiently.  Now it is 5 business days
from order to shipment.

Now is the time to order one these while I am caught up.  Here are the basic specs of what it does.

1. Dual Microprocessor Based.
One microprocessor handles the Rev Limiting function
A second microprocessor handles the Tachometer Output

2. Rev Limit is user Programmable from 3,200 to 10,000 RPM with no chips to buy.
   Accurate to within 50 RPM.

3. Tachometer output compatible with inexpensive Automotive Tachs
like Sun Pro and with single pulse tachs Like Equus.  Have now added a
    Digatron Compatible Output.

4    Can also Select either a 5V TTL output or  a 12v pulse output.  This gives
the tachometer section a truly "Universal"  output that can work with
just about any known tachometer.  Nothing like this on the market.

5.  Remote warning LED can be Dash mounted that lights up when 200 RPM
from the Programmed Limit.  ($8.00 Option)

6.  Designed to save your $$$ engine in case of a drive line breakage or other failure.

I decided not to raise the price.  So it is still 89.00 plus 7.00 Shipping in the US.

I really need to sell a few more  of these to recoup my costs and to pay back my
investor who graciously helped pay for some of the development and component cost
to make this available to mower racers.

Guys this is a great product offered by no one else built specifically for us the mower racer. This rev limiter once set up correctly will save your motor if you miss the gearing or break a chain or belt. I personally tested them and they are a great product at a very good price.

I just ordered one from Bill for an oppy I am building for the wife. I must say that Bill was excellent to deal with and very knowledgeable and if this will keep her from over revving the motor it is money well spent.

Are these units usable for all engine mfgs, or are they designed for just a few?
Such as Kaw ,Briggs, Tec, etc.

Sandsnipe,

The rev limiter uses a hall sensor that I supply.  As long as the flywheel has a magnet similar to that of a Briggs
or ARC flywheel it will work.  If you take a photo of your flywheel  ( magnet part) and post it here or send it to me
vial email.  I can let you know for sure.

Let me know what engine you have and what kind of flywheel ( aluminum / cast iron) .  We can make it work on any engine
if you really want one.

At present I'm going to use a Kaw FB460v. Stock without the governer.
I'll be using other engines as I progress with more seat time.
Looking for a Tec OV490 for my next and don't know after that.
So I was looking to use the rev limiter along as I progressed.

I have never personally seen a Kawasaki FB460V.  But I just looked at a parts diagram and the service repair manual.
Looks like a flathead with a cast flywheel.  The flywheel looks to have a magnet similar to that on a Briggs. But it has
a separate ignition control unit. The good news is that it kills the same way as a Briggs ... by grounding one side of the
primary.

So the answer is yes,  It will work with your FB460V engine.

Here is a link to the Service Manual for your Engine

Don't want to hijack Bill's thread.
Will post in other engines about the FB460v.

Number one these won't do what you want them to do, you want a governor not a rev limiter. Second the person who made these hasn't been heard from in a couple or more years, he sort of fell off the face of the earth. The handful that are around have yet to be reversed engineered so they are all that exist.
