Harden tires without tire oven.
« on: May 30, 2014, 11:59:31 am »
Thought I'd ask to see if there's any way to harden tired without tire oven? I know kart racers use simple green to pull the oils out of the tire from their tire prep.

Why do u want to harden them? The purpose of most tire dressings is to soften them.

No..... I pull garden tractors and we run turf tires 18-9.5-8 that's cut every other lug off. And my tires are fairly soft and like to harden them some. Since some of you guys run turf tires and thought I would ask on here.

Out of curiosity, which tires are they, and did you ever check them with a durometer?

WE USE TO PUT MOTORCYCLE TIRES [FOR ICE RACING] ABOVE A WOOD STOVE AND LET THEM HARDEN. KINDA THE WRONG TIME OF YEAR FOR THAT.

Simple Green softens tires...It may be the wrong time of year as Al mentioned, but an old truck puller trick is to leave them mounted and set them on the shed roof in the fall. The sun and elements over the winter will harden them up for spring when pulling season starts. That's about the only way to do it without an oven that I know of personally.

Buy the wife a weekend end getaway. Bake on 350 untell the little red indicator pop's up its just like a butterball.  You may have to bake a cake afterwords just to get the oven smelling normal or better yet burn the cake and she will think that's where the smell is coming from.
