3/4" internal bearings for front hubs?
« on: May 29, 2014, 04:48:53 pm »
Does anybody know where I might find some quality high speed bearing with a 3/4" inside diameter that will fit  hubs standard front kart hubs? I found some for a hand cart that would fit but I would not trust them to last very long.

You wont find a good quality 3/4 bearing that fits a standard hub 1-3/8  o.d. EC has hubs with the bigger 3/4 bearing inside and the 5/8 outside.

McMaster and grainger don't have anything in that size. So I guess your right George. I thought it might be a good upgrade to 3/4" being mower are twice as heavy as karts that these hubs are made for. If I did the math right they only spin at 1000 rpms at 40mph so a high speed bearing should not be needed.

All I have ever used was a 5/8 hub and never had a failure.

That's cuz all Georges weight is over the drives  I made over 50 front axles with 3/4 grade 8 bolts and never had a failure but had bearing failure.  There's some place this guy (his name escapes me) works has all sorts of goodies for go karts and mowers. I have seen ceramic bearings online for $100.  I still have 3/4 bearings in my tool box if I ever build another one.

Applied Industrial Technologies or Kaman should have the proper bearings available. Any other local bearing house would also be able to get them.

Bert
Gary Busey and Rick James both used to live in my shop. Redline stole them.

EC sells a standard kart front hub that uses a a 3/4 high speed bearing. It looks just like a 5/8 hub but its been made to fit the bigger od good 3/4 bearings.  here is the bearings i cannot find the hub though. http://eccarburetors.com/store/en/chassis/kart-chassis-parts/3-4-front-hub-bearing.html

George has friends and helped him find the hub.

Drop down in the box is a 3/4" hub.

Thanks for the bearing ideas. What is the outer diameter of that EC bearing George? Maybe I am weird but it just seems there is a lot of flexing and bending in those standard 5/8" spindles. I have to adjust the camber a few times a year to keep things where I want them but if I ever get front brakes I imagine they would not work with a 3/4" spindle.

Dont know the od Will get it though its bigger than the standard 1-3/8. And I for got we also have the hubs with 5/8 on front and 3/4 on rear. And MCP brakes works no matter axle size.
