engine building cost??

What does a gx 390 or 420 usually cost to build. I dont want it to just blow everyone off the track i just wanna race and have fun and attempt to keep up im just wondering about what the cost of a engine build is.
yes its fast, no you can not ride it!

Keep up with who? Staying with the pack will be hard racing here in TN, since we are home to some of the fastest mowers in the country. If you just want to have fun put a billet flywheel on it and some aftermarket valve springs/retainers, do some carb work and go. But to run with the top guys you're gonna spend some money.

I was looking to soebd about 1k to 1.5k

not that it matters to me, but it looks like  you need to almost double your original budget.
