Wheel base Vs width
« on: March 14, 2014, 09:38:02 pm »
Say going as wide as long would that effect cornering? Better to be a few inches longer than wider? Not looking for exact measurements, your secrets  :P. just how they effect each other. Thanks for any info.

I had read once in a stock car racing chassis book that a longer wheel base was better for dirt racing and a shorter wheel base was better for asphalt racing. Not sure if there was any truth to it. And of course that was stock car racing not mower racing.

Lee, a longer wheelbase can be an advantage on dirt tracks of 3/8 mile or bigger. Quarter mile bullrings generally like a shorter wheelbase. Don't know about asphalt because the real men (and women, but not Danica) are on dirt racing open wheel cars or big block modifieds.

Gary Busey and Rick James both used to live in my shop. Redline stole them.

Sounds about right bert. I couldn't remember all the details on dirt cars. I wasn't into dirt racing until I got into mower racing. Most of my car racing experience was with asphalt cars.
