How to properly measure coil bind?
« on: February 28, 2014, 11:47:26 pm »
Hey guys, been reading around on the internet and I just need a little clarification on measuring coil bind.  At full lift, say, I can stick my feeler gauge between each of 3 coils (within a single spring), with two measuring .025" and one measuring .035".  Do I add up all these tolerances (measuring .085") and that is my coil bind spec?  Or is the spec the largest of the three individual measurements I am able to take with the feeler gauges?

Thank you George.  Is there a point at which I need to shorten my pushrods in regards to material removed from the head getting cut down?  Not sure how much was taken off from whomever had this engine last.  Maybe like an angle of the pushrod relative to the rocker arm when the valve is at full lift being greater than some spec? I think I have a protractor somewhere, lol.
