31 BUILD
« on: March 06, 2014, 12:12:05 pm »
I'm getting parts coming and would like some info PLEASE. On 31 avs piston I'm needing rings and was wondering if numbers on piston is what I need to go off of to get the right rings or will engine model number be what I want? Next I need to know pitson to cylinder wall clearance and ring gap that should be what I need. I really appreciate all the great info given by all thanks in advance.

Standard rings are part number 791936.  .020 oversize are 792649.  I run ring gap of .006 - .008 with no issues.

Thanks weedeater, is that part number right for all avs standard pistons? I'm not trying to disagree with you just wanting to make sure I order the right ones. and is there anyway to find out what material these rings are made of, machine shop would like to know this for honeing, and piston to cylinder wall clearance.

Have rebuilt several and never seen one different yet as long as it is a 31CI.  Not sure on material but stock rings so assuming a cast ring.  I always buy the .020 over and file to fit.
