820 Brakes
« on: February 10, 2007, 07:57:46 pm »
I'm sure somebody has already posted this, but I don't have much luck with the search thing. I won't to put some brakes on my 820. I got a nice pair of kart brakes but they won't fit. Our rule book states that the axle can't go more than 38 inches. I'm running 8x8 rims. Does any body know of a system I could used? I know brakes only slow you down, but it is a safety rule.

Thanks

All a matter of knowing what to search for, and when that fails... who to search for!

Thread covering brakes on a transaxle, by Mr. Andrew Getz.

only problem is that he said he extend the axle to 42 inches. I have to be 38 inches, but thanks for the links.

He extended the axle to 42 inches because that's what the rules allow in OELTRA. If you'll PM Andrew and see how much room he has to play with, I think you'll find that he's probably got more than 4 inches clearance.

That or contact Steve Bertrand , he makes the setup on Jacob's mower and it's a direct fit for a 820 .

I know brakes only slow you down,

Set up and sized properly, a good set of Hydraulics (and even mechanicals) should be able to "Lock" your rear axle at any given time...

If you really want to stop assuredly....go for some front brakes as well...

The "Only slow you down" applies to the POS stock brake set ups...We are trying to get away from that by making "axle mounted" brakes mandatory on almost all modified or prepared class builds...

I will be racing in a stock class but I should be pumping 20 hp so I want good brakes. Plus with me being 14 any saftey feature I get makes it safer ;)

I like Jacobs setup so I'm going to call Mr.Bertrand on Monday. Hopefully he can make some before the 3rd. Thanks guys for all the help!
