Craftsman 10HP
« on: December 20, 2013, 12:34:32 pm »
I found a Craftsman 10 HP on Craigslist, but was hoping for more info before I drive to look at it.  The guy that has it for sale didn't seem to know much about it.  He gave me some numbers he found on it, and I was wondering if anyone would know the make, age, or if it is a flathead or otherwise.  The numbers he gave me are 143951010 and DOM 5031R.  If anyone has any info, I would appreciate it.
Thanks,
Wayfat

it sounds like a Tecumseh TVM195, the "Craftsman" engines were given different serial and model numbers...  If it's an older engine, it is actually a 8hp.  I picked up a few of these, they say craftsman 10hp on them but they are actually a Tecumseh 8hp (TVM195).

Wayfat,

Leman is correct, here is one of the best websites for cross referencing between mower make and engine model numbers.  I have a TVM 195 (8hp) and a TVM 220 (10hp) myself.  http://www.partstree.com/parts/?lc=tecumseh&mn=143-951010.

Thanks alot for the info.  I was looking for an engine to match the Briggs 10hp I have so I could have a spare.  I stopped and looked at this one, and couldn't see anywhere what brand it was-it just said Craftsman.  It did not look exactly like my briggs, so I had to pass.  The cross reference will be handy to have.
Thanks again,
Jeff

Yes, I have a briggs 10 HP on my AP, and I'm not sure what else my billet flywheel will fit on.  I am looking for the same type that I currently have.
