another pitman arm question
« on: November 29, 2013, 06:48:18 pm »
when you guys set up your steering do you put the pitman arm at a 90* angle to the frame with the wheels and steering wheel straight or in other words it would be parallel with the steering arm on your spindle when wheels are straight? that is how I set mine but im getting way more left turn vs right turn  :bash:
Hope for the best but expect the worst!!

I set my steering arms on the spindles at the right angle to get the proper Ackerman for my wheelbase. With a center pivot piece mounted as close to the axle centerline as possible. It is usually 90 square to the axle beam. Then on the steering shaft, with the wheels pointed straight, I rotate the pitman arm 30-45 degrees forward. Also build some steering stops into your spindles to keep it all from camming over past center. Once all that is set, I weld my steering quick disconnect hub on last with the wheel set where I want it
