420 Chain
« on: December 02, 2013, 11:09:15 am »
Is anyone out there running the 420 chain? How do you like it and where do you buy it in bulk. I'm lookin to change over and get away from the 40 chain. The 40 chain starts kinking after use and the chain wants to start jumping. I have found the 420 chain in bulk but not sure if I will be better off quality wise. I can get quality 40 chain but pay dearly for it. I do realize I will have to change sprockets unless I go with the 420H chain.

I use the 420 chain since 09 and never had a problem . This year i ajusted the rear chain only one time all season . I do 2 season with one and change them only to be safe . I only use DID chain and the most hd they sell its a little expensive and i can only get it in 130 link box. I use #41 sproket or you can use #40 if you narrow them

That's ALL I'll run! DID ERT420 gold on gold links. Costs about 45-50 dollars, but runs a lot more free, and lasts a long time! I've also done one whole season on mine and it's still great shape!! 40 chain is JUNK!

I don't understand the problems you guys have with 40 chain. My chain is standard diamond chain and has run 2 seasons of very hard abuse. My racer weighs 674 with me in it and I have yet to break a chain.

I don't over tighten the chain but after a good hard. run I can check the chain and it has tight spots in it. I keep it very well lubed as well. The best chain I had was made by KMC but it gets expensive. It didn't stretch like the other 40 chain I've tried but it still got the tight spots in it.

I'm using 40 split rear sprockets. The 40 front sprockets I had machined a little bit thinner, they were a little snug in the chain. You can easily grind em a little bit too. It's not that I ever broke a 40 chain, it's that they stretch and kink, making them not roll free, robbing power. The 420 chain is by far superior to the 40!
