Dunno it hooks hard but it had a little bounce coming out of the turn could that have something to do with it?

Bounce will kill things that are supposed to handle more posey than you are wen puttin at them. It shock loads the driveline far more than any smooth crack of the throttle could ever imagine.

Bounce?   If it bounces more than twice stuff will break.

Try 8" to 4" pulleys. The bounce is very hard on them for sure. As I've said we run pretty strong engines and a bunch of rear tire. We lose more input bearings than anything but I think we found the cure for that.

Try to get as much reduction in the trans as possible, not for sure what gear ratio Ronnie is putting in there. I twisted one off 1 off last year at the all American, I could not get the chain short enough with the ratio I needed and ended up getting the idler to far back to the rear sprocket and caused a climbing situation, it felt like you were winding up a spring when you got on the throttle. I had made the changes for the feature and was stuck with it. Was leading the race and after about 12 laps it twisted off.  I have the same pully size as you do and barely getting by on belt life in the b/p class. Going down to 4" on the rear might work but I would be suspect of the belt slipping.   I would work on getting the bounce out before spending any money on parts, you might just need an air pressure adjustment to solve your problems.

Ed, would like know how much Eric actually weighs !  :P  He was fast about 10 years ago!!

ps. I am almost 580 on my bp  :whistling:

Chuck, the last year that Mikey Bertrand raced, he went on a scale at a kart track with the mower. I do not recall what it was, but I know that Eric's mower alone was within 10 pounds or so. And I bet Mikey was a bit "bigger" then when you saw him last! I want to say somewhere in the 550 lb. range. Eric probably weights a bit less than I do, I would guess in the 160-170lb. range.

I think Eric and mower were 590 pounds total, which blew me away, because Eric was only 160 at the time. Like Eric says, it's built "tough".

Maybe he's just into heavy metal like you Bert? Who said 1/2" for a tranny plate was overkill????

You should see his transmission input shaft support. Uses a long shaft that fits into a plate with a bearing. It is a neat design, but weighs a ton and makes belt changes a long process.

Eric is an engineer by trade, so everything he builds is heavy, overly complicated, and hard to work on. His stuff does work well, though.
