Arcracing 6561 Crank Counter Weight questions.
« on: November 24, 2013, 07:45:52 pm »
I am wondering about the cost for machining a Briggs 28M707 crankshaft to take the brass counterweight sold by ARC racing?  On cranks with the removable concentrics they align with the pin. How do you get the alignment right and keep them from turning on a machined crank?

Some older cranks with nut had a pin from factory and that was the alignment for the brass weights and stopped it from turning.{please correct me if i'm wrong}If you need it balanced,Huffy44 on here can do it. :)

I actually had this done at a local Napa machine shop when I was in Kentucky.  I think they charged me about 20 bucks to machine them down, then I just drilled the crankshaft where the pin holes were and inserted a roll pin.

Thanks guys.   I really don't need it fully balanced just want to get rid of the syncro counterweight and dog bone.  They bug me!

I just measure from the outer part of the weight to the outer part of the crank throw. Use depth mic's or a good scale. One word of caution the stock crank may not be machined to the center of the crank. When you have the journal turned, get the machinist to make a slight cut to the throw so your measurements will be correct.
