Push-Pull Steering?
« on: October 15, 2013, 11:30:07 pm »
A friend of mine just came back from the ARMA Nationals and was trying to describe to me this push pull steering some were using. Anyone have any info or pictures of this? What is ARMA and USLMRA opinion of this?

Mike collins is the guy with this. and some of his friends. it came about cause they were set up with handle bars I think and something to do with how they got around that to meet ARMA rules!!!

I'd love to get a look at it. A lot of the Canadian mowers just north of me racing out of Cornwall have handle bars and it might be an easy switch for them to get to steering wheels.

I'm sending Lester some pics tomorrow of mine, perhaps he can [post them? It is legal, it sasitifies the "Round" steering wheel requirement. Someone asked me last weekend how long it took to get used to, I said about a half a lap. when you make it, leave room to change the lever to speed it up or down, simple drill a lot of holes. when i first drove Mike's the thing was so fast it was the third lap before I even realized the wheel did not turn, no kidding. It is like having power steering, effort is greatly reduced.

There is a guy in Wisconsin that has has this setup for years. Ever since they outlawed handlebars. He took the bars off and bolted on a wheel that's almost straight up and down. It steers just like bars.
