how does kohler adjust there HP?
« on: August 25, 2013, 08:53:25 am »
I know Briggs does a lot of their hp by carbueration but how does Kohler set the horsepower on their stock motors? Is it with the carb or do they do something different? I have a 17 hp Kohler and want it to be 19, how do I do this basically

Thank you again guys

Take a Sharpie and make the 7 into a 9? Just a thought.

Most of the manufacturers used different stickers on engines to say whatever the manufacturer wants it to say.  For all practical purposes engines of the same size should be the same hp.  For instance a 28 Briggs OHV can be anywhere from 14-16 hp. A Kohler can be 13-16 hp.  The manufacturers actually had a lawsuit against them for misrepresenting the hp of their engines.  This is why they are starting to get away from the hp listings.
You never win a race by focusing on one aspect of the race!  Motor isn't everything, but you better have a good one!  Chassis too!  But remember, a driver can take a slow machine and make it faster!  I may not have/be the best of any of these but I'm trying!

I bought a John Deere STX30 with a 9 hp Command Single.  It is the same as the 12.5 Command but the carb had a throttle stop that only allowed the butterfly to open about 3/4.
