model 28 briggs sp/fx
« on: July 30, 2013, 11:09:33 am »
hello, i have a model 28 briggs and stratton. i am currently in the process of building it up to be a sp/fx engine. i am having a slight problem with the rod and piston here. at top dead center a .020 over piston is sticking up from the cylinder about a 1/4 inch. is there a specific piston to use? if so does anyone have the part number? i have heard i have to use the AVS piston. but i have no part number. if anyone has this art number that would be AWESOME! Arc couldnt get it and this is my next source.

Thanks this would be appreciated to know, getting tired of the guess and check.

You need the AVS piston.  I don't have the part number right now.   But any good ARC supplier will know what you need.

If your building an FX I'd go with a OHV.   The flathead won't be competitive.  Stick to SP with this engine.

Not the average joe I bet.

What was the rest of the field?   I have a nasty flathead.    My old crapy OHV would smoke it.

Oh yea.  My home built flatty has beat all the "bad to the bone" flattys.    Not going to name names.

OHV is the way to go in FX.  And I wouldn't build a briggs.

im building a briggs because its what i have laying around. thanks for the advice for just doing s/p class instead. ill try chatting with Robert Sparbel, minnesota president at st. croix chassis. he may be able to tell me a part number, either that or he might even have my piston on hand. i may just do s/p class, im not sure.
