JD STX38 - Steering question - Light front end
« on: July 23, 2013, 12:16:13 pm »
hoping someone can help me with an issue I am having

I run a JDSTX38 and right now I am having major troubles with cornering.  I have tried different angles, TOE out setups and i push thru the corners.  I have a sharp entering the corner but then once I grab the throttle it pushes out until i hit the rough edges and then grabs strong.

I am going to try some different wheels up front but just feels like I am pushing thru the corners.

Side note i will pull wheelies out of the corners too.

Can I add weight up front to help this?

What are you running for air pressure in the rear tires.  It would help if you provided a little more info on your set up.

Caster, camber, toe, tire pressure and weight in each corner if you have it.

Adding weight is just trying to bandaid a larger problem. We ran the same chassis with everything from a 8 to 44 twin. You need to provide some more information. Do you have a front axle with caster and camber in it? What is the circumference of all your tires? What is the weight on your all of your tires? Need the weights with the front tires straight and with them turned fully to the left.

I havent had a chance to go pick up some scales yet

I run for tires 16x7.5x8 rears, 13x6x6 fronts
700 tranny
6in front
4in tranny
12 tooth front sprocket
47 tooth rear sprocket

Front axle has 12 degree camber

You don't need scales if you don't have them. We used bathroom scales but I digress. Set and note your air pressures. Then use a tape measure and note the circumference of your tires. Let me know what you come up with.
