kohler top end won't clear out
« on: July 07, 2013, 05:56:21 pm »
Hey guys I'm running a Kohler cv490s in my racer right now but I can't seem to get it to clear up on the top end. I noticed the lmk carb doesn't have a high speed adjustment.... Any idead or advice would be appreciated. I have a billet flywheel on it currently if that helps.... I was thinking of maybe making a plug for the bottom of the bowl and limiting the amount of fuel at WOT...

Thank you

Just seems like it is too rich on the top on, like it's not quite getting there like a spit and sputter.... I know at the last race I messed up and put 110 gas in it and iif you don't have the compression it won't burn it (accidentally grabbed the wrong can) but before that running pump gas I still couldn't get the top end to clear out and having someone spank me with a 13 hp briggs is frustrating

I forgot to mention that it seems to hesitate when you hit the throttle.  If I ease into it or the rpm's are already up there it seems to be fine but dropping the hammer when the green drops is a bit of a challenge.  I usually drop back a position at the start because of the hesitation.

Its ok most of fxs at our club beat the fxt. Ya your probly getting to much fuel my keihin was doing that at one time and I had to get smaller main jet.
when my carb was running rich it would speed up and stop at 1500 rpm and fall flat on its face. Is that what yours dose.
Ya if u don't have high compression I wouldn't run race fuel. just run premium. For my new motor since I milled it I cant run unleaded fuel anymore.

yeah it falls on it's face.... if I go to a smaller jet though doesn't that bring my hp down though? wonder if I could just make a plug on the bottom, drill and tap it to take a needle and help restrict the fuel running on the top end?  Or do I find another carb with a high speed adjustment?

Question are u running a fuel pump. No getting small jet wont ruine hp. It probly make it run better.
Il try to find a new carb with adjustment you cant find one try it that way. But for where I live kohler carbs are hard to come by and are expensive so ill try to find one before you start trying things.

lol idk I never ran kohler I was about to got different motor instead. Hmm is this for stock motor then I would take it to local small engine repaire shop and see if they have one like take carb off and see. If its for like fxs  then ill just get something like motorcycle carb.
