What would be a ball park price just to get a mower and build it to race?

YOU COULD BUILD A STOCKER FOR LESS THAN A GRAND, MAYBE LESS IF YOU CAN FIND GOOD USED PARTS. SAFETY IS #1 IN THIS SPORT. YOU WILL HEAR THAT OVER AND OVER AGAIN. IF YOU SEE A FAILURE YOU WILL UNDERSTAND WHY. YOU SHOULD FIND A RACE NEAR YOU AND GO INTO THE PITS AND TALK TO ALL YOU CAN, GET A SET OF RULES. MOST ALL WILL HELP POINT YOU IN A GOOD DIRECTION!!

There have been some really nice machines for sale the last few months on here that you could have got for a lot less then building it for. Keep checking the for sale section. BUT going fast and winning cost money. You will be in the 3k range just to get close to the front in an entry level ungoverned class nationally. Start by going to the track closest to you and see what it takes to win there and talk with them about rules.

Also it will depend on your skills as a fabricator.  I make a lot of my own parts and I hunt on ebay all the time thus my costs are lower. If you were to buy everything new and you had someone build you a chassis your talking $1500 for just modxr (stock motor prepared chassis). Moving up to a single ungoverned engine and you can double that $1500, just to start. If you want to build a twin lets just say your not going to take the wife out to eat anytime soon.

If you check out my gp build i built my machine for less 700 ..that is starting out with a free mtd chassis ..a 31ci ohv that I trade a28ci l head.. I got 2-700 peerless trans for less then 20 buck from a recycling center ..then I had to start spending some $$EC distributing is where I bought the 1-1/4 Rear axle ...adjustable cassettes ...hubs ..sprocket ..rims...tires I get from overstockwheels.com then I build my own fully adjustable front axle which you can do for 50 bucks I get my heim joints from racingrodends.com for my brakes I bought them from eBay I got my whole setup for another 50bucks ..plus I got enough brake parts to build 3 mowers ..And I even had everything sand basted ...1thing make sure you have it welded by someone that can weld . Nothing worse then breaking welds .hope this helps out just alittle ....how is my mower doing from the time I took it off my jig to the dirt I have run 6 races and took the checkered in all 6 ...

COUNT ON 1000.00 FOR THE CHASSIS(IF YOU BUILD IT YOUR SELF) THATS NEW AND USED PARTS. THEN DEPENDING ON WHAT CLASS YOU WANT TO RUN YOU WILL SPEND 0-5000.00 ON THE ENGINE.
