Running a pull start
« on: May 15, 2013, 10:30:59 am »
hi everyone got some ?s.  I am going to be running pro-x class through ARMA. from what I gathered in the rools and from one of my other posts I can run a pull start in this class. what I wanted to know was has anyone used the Raceseng Adjustable Billet Flywheel with there pull start. this is the flywheel I am going to use for my 390 so I can run a pull start only. and is there anything bad that can happen from using a pull start.

thanks damien

I jknow you said Honda, but my experience with a 8 hp flathead is if you change the cam, it wont work. I must have broken 5 or 6 pull starts before I gave up. But legally you can, if you install a compression release it might work. And by the way, my flatties have very low compression to begin with, the cam profile changes it.

If i was you like he said. I would use starter which you can order one and there is spot where you can drill out holes on the engine where starter would go and you can install one. Just buy electric start billet flywheel and install a starter if it dosent have one on there.

WHEN PULLING A PULL ROPE WITH A CAM YOUR BEST BET IS TO ROLL IT OVER JUST PAST COMPRESSION AND THEN PULL THE ROPE TO START. IF YOU JUST PULL IT YOU WILL BREAK THE ROPE MAYBE NOT EVERY TIME BUT YOU COULD!

I thought about it ...but on a fully built motor ....think I would pull mower over be for motor started ...that or it would t start an the block would be vented by a sleg hammer ....I would use it on a stocker all day long
