we race mowers not Karts. Karts are lighter then mowers and don't need the extra horse power to move them. And we have plenty of billet parts for mower engines. I'm not saying a 5hp wont go good I'm just saying its not what mower racing is about.

As long as its a fathead engine, its legal if it was an original mower engine.

I have raced againist one 5hp that was built by a "Go Kart Shop" it was a horizental and had to be started with an external motor. It should have been in FX, but we let it run in Mini. He tried all summer to run with us, he was not successful.

On the other hand the rear engined mower Hitch had ran extremely well.

If it is for a young person, then build a JP style mower.

Your first Post asked about using a kart 5hp for mower racing. That was answered with one person has done well, most failed. Then you state you think it would be a good class for mower racing. You got replies why it wont work. Then you change to oh its just to hang with Dad. Don't throw people under the bus when the direction or point of the thread keeps changing stay on point please!  I agree 100% of what we use is a lot of kart parts and some machines do look somewhat like karts in the way they are driving the rear axle. But that is as fare as the mower racing world would like them to be the same.  Mowers are mowers and karts are karts. I built a j/p last year that won the ARMA championship with less into it then the cost of a built kart engine. so there is no need to look at kart world for kids to race. The kids class works as is, no need to add classes we have to many now. I believe that as George has stated in the past that some youngsters can handle more machine by the time they are 14 or 15 but the rules are what they are and its what is there for kids to enjoy the sport. My comment was not meant to upset you in anyway on the two questions you asked. I only gave my thoughts about your questions. Keep in mind you are posting on the best site for mower racing and people get a bit up in arms when people call them karts. So with that said I will go back to the sidelines again cause it seems I never say anything worth reading anyways.
