Spark plug spacing
« on: March 19, 2013, 10:15:51 pm »
Have a problem with the plugs in my built Vanny BARELY nicking the pistons.  Has Ron's Long Rods and Wiseco Pistons with .020 dome, can I use a copper washer to space the plug under the crush washer?  I am running an Autolote Double Platinum plug # APP3926, do the make a shorter plug you guys know of?

you can use the copper washer, or go to the local speed shop for auto's, and get a pack of spark plug indexing washers.
If you quit when you're behind, you will never win.

Cool, biggest hit was #2 and it closed the gap .028.  What type of clearance should I give them, meaning the gap closed .028 so give it a spacer .xxx thick?

Index the plug, with the gap pointing down to the piston, and it will prolly clear it with one of the indexing washers.

Ok, I've honestly never had to index a plug.  What do you mean by pointing the gap towards the piston?  Open the gap larger than .030 and use an index washer and see if it clears?  Sorry to be dumb just want to understand fully lol

mark the plud with a felt tip  pen where the electrode points and use different thicknesses washers till you get the electrode pointed
 so you have clearance

If you get the ground strap pointing away from the piston, it is less likely,
it will hit it. There was a thread in archives somewhere on indexing plugs.
