Do a search for seating a tire bead, there is a safe manner to do it.

I took mine to a tire shop and they used a big air tank to set the bead.

yes they fit fine. 8x8 is a very common rim size a lot of people use.

JD111,  do you have access to bead sealer?  If so you may want to use it.  I find that when racing with lower pressures dirt will work its way between the bead and the rim and cause rim leaks.  It also acts as a lubricant for the tire bead when it is seating on your rims.  Are you using the ec bead lock rims?  Those things work great!  Two come along straps, one on each sidewall of the tire's circumference help to expand the sidewall enough to allow you to air up the tire.  Some good bouncing like a basketball of the tire will help the bead seat as well, without having to over-inflate the tire.
