got some more fab time in the shop today, here is my progress:

hood and grill are mounted now, and the dash tower is braced, and i will finish welding it tomorrow....and i will also get the fuel tank mounts put on it. i really like the way the hood and grill look, reminds me of "old school" style :D

I like the way these older front ends look!  I have one just like this and another that is without louvers, very old school.
You never win a race by focusing on one aspect of the race!  Motor isn't everything, but you better have a good one!  Chassis too!  But remember, a driver can take a slow machine and make it faster!  I may not have/be the best of any of these but I'm trying!

yep, the louvers are probably the thing i like most on it....oh, and the fact that it's not flat across the face of the grill, it has a center "peak" that really adds a nice dimensional factor!

You plan to stay with those colors Jim? I like the blue fenders against the red.

Frank, i do not plan on keeping it that way, i am going to be painting it back to the original red, with black accents. i don't mind the look, but the family team colors are red&black, and that's what i will stick with.

How about that steel dash that goes from chassis to hood !
1 piece, clean, solid sweet!

On the rules question of the engine plate - the original hole has to be there. You are allowed to strengthen that area, but the original hole must be intact. It is the only way a Tech can check it. It may seem like a silly rule, but there are reasons for it. If you want to build yours that way Jim it is your prerogative,You have a great build going on here , I'm not bashing!  however anyone watching this thread should know that engine plate mod is not legal.

Hey Rooster, just asking, but is a reinforcement plate allowed to be used in conjunction with the original frame area?  If a fella were to weld a plate in underneath, is that allowable?  Reason why I am asking is Jim could do the opposite and weld the original frame piece back in on top of the plate?  Might look funny, but would that then be legal?

yep, i do like the dash too, i have not seen another around here. yes, Rooster is correct, please do not think that just because i cut out and put in my own engine plate, that it is legal....rules for local affiliated clubs will and can be different from national, and sanctioned races, if i am told that i need to change it by the local club, i will do as Jeff mentioned, and just put the original engine plate back on it as a "skin" to cover the plate :D

lol - i knew I'd get called out on that -
I wil say this once......and only once....
Rooster doesn't know everything!
That rule has been around longer than I have, it may just be that there is no reason to change it?

not allot of progress today but i, did mount the brake caliper. i need to cut some gussets to add onto the angle iron to keep it from possibly flexing, but it's pretty much done:

how it bolts to the bracket:

front, top, and rear views:

i will be mounting the master cylinder, and the pedal this weekend, along with a chain tension-er.

On the engine plate issue: not saying Jim did it for these reasons but: the most obvious advantage in removing and making your own plate is weight placement; thus this is why it is illegal.  You can move weight left, forward, back, up or down. I saw an oppy one time that was moved over an inch down and at least two to the left not to mention back about three.  And yes it was fast, even Rusty didn't win that race!
