for the love of a toro
« on: January 17, 2007, 05:59:07 pm »
the mower was far from ideal to build but I thought it was cool and it was free. I built it for my local circle tracks rules and everything is adjustable . theres probably to much adjustment. but I don't know if it would fit into any other classes. take a look and tell me what you think. appreciate the time.

our rules say we must have L style spindles no go kart spindles It didn't say they had to be from a lawnmower I made the on the bridgeport at work 10 degrees of KPI it was a guess but the camber gain is were I assumed I wanted it. thanks for the input

the spindles setup is kinda odd, i agree, but it looks really nice.

The local racing series introduced an outlaw class this year for guys that want to run wider than 38" and longer than a mower frame.  Also thankfully included in the outlaw class is anyone using kart wheels.  That leaves just valve in block (flathead guys) and ohv.  I guess in the official classes they would be AP and BP.  That monster looks sick btw!  I'd love to build an outlaw like that.  How wide is it exactly?

thanks man I appreciate the good words. the spindles may look odd but thers full adj 4 steps of ackerman 11degrees pos. to 12 neg on the camber and still within track width 1.5 inches of ride hight and 30 deg of caster before I bind the lower drag link below the motor also you can adj the steering quickness from 15deg from center to lock  upto 45deg it's all chromemoly so it should be plenty strong.

Yep... I'm surprise more guys didn't do that with the "Old" IMOW class...

Now they are allowed to use cart spindles, but before these would have been legal...

our class rules say 40" max you have to fit in a wooden box but toe and camber can screw with that so go to tech straight up and don't push the limit ican make it as wide as 47" with the spacer set up on the spindles but I'm going to use that to offset the track width

Nice!
Do you think you could get some bigger pictures and a picture or two of the front axle?

I't would have been way easier to use cart spindles ( wish I could have ) but on the same note it's kinda fun building whatever you can to fit in the rule book. the only problem with our class is you have to use stock motors up to 12.5 you can remove the gov. and change filter assy and exh. but thats it unfourtanetly I'd love to build a race eng. for it  is there any class you think I could be competitive in that races in the northeast

heres a couple more of the front end there is still some work I need to do Im going to gusset the axle tube to the chassis and to the front bumper to tie the whole thing together I'm taking it slow trying to keep it light but strong as possible the rolling chassis with mock up eng. and trans ways about 80+ lbs but theres no guts in the eng just the crank. If anyone has any Ideas i'm open to suggestions It's only my second build any experience is worth it's weight in gold to me.

thanks alot I appreciate the karma! With out this site the toro wouldn't be even close to what it's turning in to. I haven't found another site that even gets close to the quality info I've been able to get here. thanks again.
