The engine won't cost anymore to build for an FXT then it would for a prepared chassis too.

you are correct, horizontal shafts are only allowed in fx, fxs, and of course your v-twin for fxt.
That is not correct, there is no stipulation as to the orientation of the engine other than it must be as original.
Horizontal shaft engines are allowed in prepared classes if the chassis had a horizontal in it stock.

LOL....therein lies the beginning of the debate...
Some of the really old ones had a horizontal.
Tyler Frazier runs an old Wheel Horse Lawn Ranger that meets all the criteria of the rules with a K Series Horizontal Flatty....things a Tank, but its a tank that hauls!
Really...he could put a Horizontal V-Twin on it...should be legal?
I've seen a couple others here and there, but not main stream for sure.
