I never met the man, but those that have, and told me about him, always
spoke with reverence about him. For those, they will be saddened,
but will be fortunate to have met him, and had memorble expereinces they
have shared with their friends.

..he was a friend to me the first time i talked to him...
He was a friend to us all, even those he never met.I Simply cannot Imagine racing without Art, 10 minutes after you met the man you both loved him, and had most likely learned something! 20 minutes after you met him, You knew your life would have never been complete without meeting this man...and you had probably learned something Profound! And if you are so lucky to have spent a single hour on this earth with Art, you wanted to spend the rest of your life as his friend...and may have even learned something Useful!

My Condolences to those closest to him.
Rest In Peace Friend.

Yep. Anything that Art had, he would let you borrow or have in a pinch.  Character like that is not so easily found in this day in age.  In fact, I can only think of just a few people that are truly like that. Even though I am sure he had a lot of things on his mind, he always managed to have a sincere smile on his face.  Like he was truly happy to see you, and took the time to talk with you.  He was a retired principal of a school, and to get to that level means you have to be very good at dealing with all sorts of people, while serving as an ambassador for whatever entity you worked for.  Well, Art's strengths and natural abilities carried over in that way when it came to lawnmower racing.  He struck a balance of kindness, generosity, and confidence, while not being a push-over.  Good people like him will be missed for sure!  RIP Art!    8)

I also had some good talks with Art, he always made you feel like you had known each other for years even if you had just met him. He was always positive, had a sence of humor and was very much fun to be around, he was everybodys friend. The first time I met him was at the winternationals in Tampa. My battery failed in my mower, he carried my battery through the pits asking everyone if they had something that would work to get me going again. I'll never forget that.
Art will be missed, I'm very sad to see him go.
