IF your running this as a race motor with the compression parts still in it your gonna have an even bigger problem down the road when it slings apart.

It's actually in a golf cart. I built it for lower rpm. Golf carts need more low end power.

George, if the weights and plate are removed, does it still present an issue with stuff coming apart?

When bypassing the govner the weights and plate spring and pin should be removed. THEN one must push ball and cap out and make a bushing to take up the slack inside the cam or no oil pressure. The best thing to do if your gonna bypass a govner even if using the stoick cam and lift is have precision grind a new core it doesnt have all the holes in it. Too many rpms the stock cam tends to break.

How can it sling apart? It has a spring pin for a positive stop.

if using stock valve springs to control rpm, i would think it would be ok? there is one in our club, been running that way all last year, no issues.

Can you elaborate on the bushing and oil pressure? I've read around and read the sticky of another forum about governor removal on the vanguard. And have not come across any other mention of the need for a bushing or oil pressure related issues from removing the governor weights.

If running ungoverned with the stock cam, the decompression spring will stretch from centrifugal force and eventually break in two then it will be hard to turn over to get it started.

The decompression weight has a positive stop so the spring only stretches to a fixed distance. This will happen with or without the governor.
