Toro Wheelhorse build
« on: November 12, 2012, 06:09:36 pm »
I just got this mower today. Its gonna be a slow project but I will post pics along the way. It will be powered by a B&S 20 hp intek and a peerless 820 with a jackshaft setup.

It should stick to the track real well, those things are very well made!!! Sort of like racing an anvil.
You never win a race by focusing on one aspect of the race!  Motor isn't everything, but you better have a good one!  Chassis too!  But remember, a driver can take a slow machine and make it faster!  I may not have/be the best of any of these but I'm trying!

Ahh. That looks like a 200 series, 214 or 244 maybe?
Verticle engine with a sturdy pan chassis?

That would make a good racer. Actually think someone in Alabama built one before that was not slow!

It's a 244 lol and my local track has stock classes based on engine size and then modded classes. I'm gonna run the stock class for 20 hp and once I get the budget I'm gonna build up my motor.

Ok I removed the deck and hydro rear end. I have a Mtd front axle flipped upsides down and the mower is just resting on it. (I don't plan on using it, I justwanted to see how much clearance it would have.) and the mower is just sittin on the transaxle .

I have 6 inch clearance here.

10 inches of clearance here.

And 5 inch clearance here.

Any suggestions on what I should do?

Use A jack shaft or flip the rearend over and run the shifter out the other side of the case.  Cut the old hitch bracket flush with the frame rails.  Get the transaxle as far up into the frame as possible, I actually mounted an 820 to the top side of a Murray wide body frame.  You really want the frame to be as close to 4 inches from the ground as possible. I assume those are 18 inch tall tires, I would find some 16-7.50x8 tires. That would lower you an inch.

Yea I know lol I just moved where I am now lol and I have to run electricity to the shed. That was my truck headlights ;). The build has kinda hit a brick wall, some stuff came up and my budget is low but I'm gonna get back to it soon.
