Couldn't you hang that clutch off the right angle gear box?

You can like my shaft off is 3/4 that gives you lots a clutch options BUT the smaller shaft clutches may not handle the HP well not so much the HP as it is the torque. BUT it all falls back on how you gear it also.

If you run it off the gear box you'll want a 1:1 ratio from the engine to keep the clutch in the correct operating rpm for our hp level. I don't think that would be possible to do or your axle sprocket would be bigger then the rear tires. Anything with any power at all won't lock up tight enough if the clutch hub will only see 4000rpm or so. If you're going to put three times the power through the clutch than it was designed for, you'll have to spin it faster to keep it locked up the best you can unless you go to a disc clutch where it can be made to work at any rpm.

Thats what I meant was to hang the disc clutch on the gear box. I would still run the gearbox faster than the engine and use a reducer on the gearbox shaft as to be able to mount a 1" or larger clutch. You would need to do the math so that the clutch engaged at the proper engine rpm.

Yup Lester you have the right idea. And with the right coupler or love joy set up you can run any size shaft you need off the gear box.

George, i was thinking of using the lovejoy couplers...have you used them? and do the "composite" pieces that go between the 2 metal pieces hold up to our abuse? thanks for any info.

I use one on our dyno and it has held up for two years it's ran everything from an 8 to a 25 with anywhere from 15 to 90hp and over 100 ftlbs of torque put thru it. I know two racers using them on their machine no problems at all and very smooth. They carry an extra bushing but after a season still have not used it.

Thinking of redoing my FXT this winter and this talk of putting the clutch on the RAGB has got me thinking. The way mine is set up the RAGB is only spinning half the engine speed. I am not sure the clutch would work properly. Turn the engine up to 8000 rpms that is only 4000 at the clutch. coming off the corners it would disengage everytime. Trying to figure out how to do this.
