Steering problems

i followed the acmemotorsports Direct Steering and now having some problems.

for one it is pretty tough steering.  I have a John Deere STX38. I attached pics any help would be appreciated.

Turns really well to the Right, actually over turns, and doesnt want to turn to the left much at all.  Plus it is just tough steering.

Yup mount your tie rod end to the bolt hole furthest to the left.  And make your tie rod longer which will move the tab on your steering to the right which will prevent over steering.  And by moving your tie rod close to the spindle shortens the radius your steering wheel has to turn creating more steering to the left

If you want equal steering left and right the drag link needs to attach at right angles to the spindle arm as well as the steering arm.
You can make the modification like I drew on your picture to acheive this. Cut the spindle arm and re weld at the angle of the black lines and extend the drag link along the red line.

It is not necessary in most cases that you have equal steering though, in most cases you will need more right than left.

Your "hard steering is usually a matter of caster or KPI and weight , the more of either you have the more you are "lifting" when you turn.

Either that, or something is binding. To tell if your binding, turn the wheels with the front wjheels in the air, if it is hard to turn, you are binding.
To find a bind, un-hook all linkages while still in the air, then turn the wheel, if it turns freely then hook up drag link, if it still turns freely then hook up tie-rod....some where in that process you will find the bind.

In your first photo your steering linkage rod is too short. Draw an imaginary line from the spindle to the heim joint. this line should be 90 degrees to the linkage arm when spindle is 90 degrees to the frame (tires pointed straight ahead). Same as your steering pitman arm. I find 2.25 to one to be the best ratio (4.5 inches center to center from the spindle to the center of the heim joint and 2 inches from the center of the steering link). for a modified (Super mod style - wider and offset) a lesser angle on the spindle arm (85-80) and a greater on the steering arm (95 -100 so that they equal 180). This works for mods as they are harder to turn and usually require more right than left and a slower left and faster right.
