Angle grinder.
« on: August 02, 2012, 11:35:51 pm »
Well guys, my Kawasaki 4.2 amp from TSC died on me. So I was wondering what the best grinder is for the money. Im looking for a cheap one. But it has to last me a good long time. has anyone used the super cheap ones a harbour Frieght? Worth buying? I could buy 2 of these and keep a cut off on one and a grinding wheel on the other and not have to switch it each time. And it would only be the price of 1 regular brand .

I've had one for about 3 years with no problems, just had to replace the brushes once which came with the grinder. I think I paid $15.00 for it

Dewalts go on sale at times for $40 the Chicago electric grinders are weak and bog down easy but I have a skill or b and d from Walmart and it does great had it for years...  just look at what amp motor it has a 6 amp grinder isn't gonna be any good but a 9 or a 11 is going to be nice

Got two 20 dollar grinders 8 years ago at a rolling truck tool sale. Both have had cords replaced several times but still work well and no sign of letting up. No name on either no clue the brand, but both have been worked HARD, just goes to show ya dont always have to have a name brand to last.

I have a HFT cheapy, used the crap out of it. I have run it hard and long to the point where it has gotten nearly to hot to hold. I cant change the wheel any more because I was using it in a tight area and hit the button(that holds it while you use a wrench to change the wheel) against something while it was coasting to a stop and busted the lock right out of the alm case. But it still works.

had that happened to one of mine but was able to use a screw driver to hold it while I changed it. Worked great until it quit working a year two later

I have a Ryobi that I bought 6 years ago that has held up really well even though it was pretty inexpensive. I don't think it really matters about the brand. I have some no-name grinder that also works fine and I picked it up for $15 somewhere.

Maybe we use ours more than some or just punish them more than others but we could get about a year out of a Dewalt grinder, Bosch seems to be the best for us. 4.5" grinder at 10 amps, its pretty mean, and can be caught on sale for $100. Not "cheap" but well worth it...our oldest is almost the years old and the other two are not far behind.
