Aluminum Split Rims (Rim Halves for Karts)
« on: January 03, 2007, 11:50:20 am »
Has anyone tried using the Aluminum Split Rims (Rim Halves for Karts)? I am wondering if they will hold up for Lawn Mower Racing. I am guessing the good thing about them is that they must be easy to mount tires on them. I see Arc Racing sells them as well.

I tried a set on My A/P last season..2" and 2 1/2" on a 3.5" tire...(Front)

Seemed to hold up, didn't bend, flex or let loose...

I did switch to  a solid 5" toward the end of season, but that's just because it was "shiney'er"... 8)

George ( in soltra) ran STEEL split rims and even the slightest tap would bent them.. i thikn he went threw 5 difrent rims ( 10 halves )

and they are a PAIN to get the tire off some times ( well with his set up anyways!!! he has a PVC spacer to widen them!!!)

Thanks For the information

So I guess if Arc sells a 3 1/2 inch halve. That size is just for the half correct? You put two 3 1/2 size halves together to get a 7 inch wide rim correct?

Correct... for any inset/off set you want....

Probably want to stick with a 2 1/2" inset or less for spindle /hub clearance...

I agree with Randy, you prolly want to stay with 2.5 rear offset or less to clear spindles and king pins.

Ok Thanks Guys, I see what you are saying. Another question, would these hold up for rear rims? For say the engine power of your SP class in the USLMRA? (I know you need to run the 8 inch size but that does not affect me)

Ok Thanks, you think more people would use these type of rims since it should be easier to change tires and you can mix and match them for different widths.

Yeah but also #22 George from soltra was running steal split rims on his tractor and the were modified so thats probably why they didn't hold up to well.
