drive pulley
« on: June 17, 2012, 01:59:57 am »
Why does my drive pulley keep loosening up? I have the 8 inch ec motor pulley and hub its loosen's up every time I put it on the track  I've used locktite but it still seems to come loose I never had this problem with my old motor but ever since we've put the big hoss on it never fails and its driving me crazy everytime it happens I think something is about to go on my motor. Is there anything  special you guys use to keep this from happening it would be highly appreciated. Thanks

It doesn't move up and down it will loosen and rock side to side(left-right)
Motor is very well balanced never had any vibrations from engine

you sure your not running a 1 1/8 hub on a 1 inch crank snout?  either that or yours is hogged out somehow...  teetering side to side means something is sloppy.

When my steel pulley wollered out the keyway on the crank and pulley. I welded another hub from TSC to it. Also I use long set screws with jamnuts.

If the key way fell out and it spun on the shaft it is probably junk.

I use a bolt in the end of the crank with spacers to hold the pulley and key in.

I trouble with the set screws coming loose at one time. Now I just remove the set screws and use 2 aluminum split locking collars on top and bottom of the pulley to secure the pulley in place.
