New MTD IMOW build
« on: June 05, 2012, 11:44:40 am »
This is our first build and build thread so we'll see how it goes. Here is the candidate for the build ($30.00 MTD/Huskee).If you have any suggestion or question along the way just ask or let me know. Alright here we go!!!!!!!!!

Once it's all tore down the MTD chassis has four main parts to start with.

Ok now that we have it all tore down we are ready to get started.

This picture shows what needs to be ground down so tubing will sit level in frame and your pulley will fit without hitting the guide on the frame.

This picture shows the front of the frame you need to cut the lower lip off even with the rest of the chassis.
The next pictures will show the frame being prepped for welding.

Next I welded on the cassette hanger why you ask because Sir George said to. Lol

I Dont know how far along you are but i found out in a hurry when building mine that sandblasting my whole mower is way easier in the long run instead of grinding everywhere... i did the same thing you are now lol. Looks like a good start though!

Looking good so far. If I might make a suggestion here. Be careful and take your time with those continuous welds like on the rear cassette flange. A lot of heat at one time will cause the metal to warp. Again looking good so far.

Ok we made a little more progress today. First let me say that EC has some nice parts here's what we recieved so far.

And now onto the build.

This is the dash and column support.

The steering shaft is installed using two support bearings from EC one on top and one on bottom welded in the frame.

This is the welder I use if anyone is interested it's a Pro 180 from Lowes and it is 220 volt. I can run with or without gas.
That's it for today we had to run to town for some metal and supplies so we got a late start.
