Update: The good - Rookie won his first race with the 540 this past week. motor ran stronger than ever, never missed a beat. the Bad - Taking his victory lap the engine appeared to stall for no reason...almost like it ran out of gas. they pushed it into the pits and motor turned like the spark plug was out of it.....expected at worst a bent intake pushrod, but more than likely the intake pushrod had simply fell off (Hadn't set lash since first start up - my bad). The ugly - Appears to have dropped the exhaust seat, bent and broke the exhaust valve smashing the head to near non repair and my custom piston looked to be complete junk. The rest of the engine looks good. I pulled the piston and on closer inspection there wasn't any ring groove damage (pinching) and most of the impact and damage was over the heaviest part of the piston (wrist pin boss area). The appears to be no change of shape to the underside of the dome and since I'm 2 weeks until a new one arrives I chucked it back into the lathe and did a .002 clean up cut of the entire piston. Damage doesn't seem to be as severe and I'm going to pop it back in and install my spare head (once I clearance for the piston) and run it another week (or 2) until the new one arrives. Fingers crossed.
