Carb questions
« on: June 21, 2012, 09:20:11 am »
I have a 25 hp horizontal shaft on my outlaw mower everything roller up top with big valves and stock bottom end I turn it around 6000 I am running a tillison 358 single carb with stock intake . I have it in my head that I can get more out of my engine with different carb set up. In this class the sky is the limit there is not restrictions. Not that it's weak very strong but everyone wants a little more just not sure if different set up would help. I know flow and breathing is key. My heads have had the work done.  Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions. Remember no rules. What ever you can dream up. But the qeustion is will it make a difference.

                        Thanks in advance

Yes. You'll want to build your own intake.

the stock manifold(if you are using it) may be restricting flow above 6000 rpm.
If you quit when you're behind, you will never win.

Changing the intake and carb would help, but your still limited with your stock bottom end. I would install a good cam and a set of longer rods. Vogel Manufacturing has some of the best cams out there for these motors in my opinion. He can re-grind your stock cam and he also sells billet steel adjustable cams in flat tappet and rollers cams.

I have roller cam every thing up top is very good parts and don't turn it harder than 6000 and had no issues with stock bottomend ran it last year and freshened this year and I run with or beat the all out vangaurd competition but wanted to see if I can get a little more from it but wasn't sure that changing the carb set up would make that much of a difference in the 4500 to 6000 range thought it would be more for the higher rpm range
Also who makes the best ignition set up for this engine I know that everyone has there on opionion of this but I am intrested in hearing them

Like Drew said call Midwest. They have some nice EI setups.   Zach Kerber Machine and Design also makes a good electronic ignition system as well. The old style single wire stock coils work great unless you are running alcohol or turning over about 8,000 rpm. Midwest sells a hotter spark magnet for the stock coils as well.
