What engine do you plan to run? Tires? Clutch?
You never win a race by focusing on one aspect of the race!  Motor isn't everything, but you better have a good one!  Chassis too!  But remember, a driver can take a slow machine and make it faster!  I may not have/be the best of any of these but I'm trying!

I made the bottom piece of the chassis so thick so it twist.  As for the engine I was thinking about running a racing go kart(shifter kart) engine.  That way I won't need to run a starter and all the wires.  Tires I'm pretty positive I'm going to run hoosier all around.  Then the clutch I'm still thinking about what I should run.

Have you read a lawn mower racing rule book (US or ARMA)?  Only mower engines are allowed in mower racing.  I've never seen a shifter cart I.E. 125 to 250 cc two stroke engine on a mower.  However, the Honda GX390 is allowed (horizontal shaft- easier for some to build with).

Plus, I would rather deal with the 1 or 2 wires of a lawn mower engine versus the CDI/stator/wiring harness of a shifter cart.  Also, shifter carts use radiators, which have scalding HOT water flowing through them (also not allowed in mower racing).

Is it a 390 Clone?  Or a box stock 6hp type?

Only the 390 type is legal.

If it has 390cc cast into the left front corner of engine that should be the Honda 390, also the valve cover will have only 1 center bolt. I build several of these raced prepped so, pm if interested in any build info.

Sorry its been a while since worked on this but this is how far I am now.  It's slow process but I want to build it right.  To save so weight I replaced some of the steel with some  thin wall tube.  And is my first chassis I ever built.

Even though you start projects and never finish them, looks like you are well on your way to finishing now. Looks good.

Yeah I hoping I get it a roller by the end of October.  Then after that get it running and driving by the end of the year.  I don't want to rush it though.

The general idea is to have the same family of parts, and look period correct.
There is a fine line on replacing body panels that have been damaged.
If what you want to do is way too obvious, consult your tech man for a ruling.
