sanity check
« on: March 27, 2012, 03:31:23 pm »
Got my rear hubs and wheels here. I test fit it up just to see what it looks like and how everything is going to fit. With where the keyway ends and the gap between the wheel and transaxle I'm going to have to run a brake hat correct? How long is a brake hat? I just want to make sure everything fits before I order parts I don't need......like the 3/4-1.25" bushing I ordered thinking I could run a hub for the disc. I'm also guessing I'll have to use the inner mounting points on the transaxle. It looks like everything will fit as long as that brake hat will get me back to the keyway and not be too long or short.

I ran into the same problem with not enough keyway. I used Roosters trick and extended to keyway using a die grinder with several cut off wheels stacked together. Then took my time and extended the keyway all the way to the transaxle housing. It worked fine I have done several that way.

that might be an option if the hat is too short. Good idea too......as long as you don't sneeze mid cut.

we used a small rotor and hyd brake from a junk pit bike. i welded the rotor to a 3/4 hub from tsc, made a bracket to hold the caliper to the transaxel and it all fit nicely iside the rear wheel.

do you have a picture of this set up? Trying my best not to have to spend $100 for just a brake hat.

go to your local farm store and buy a 3/4 hub and a chain gear the size you want and weld them together. then just put it on and mark it where you want it and cut your keyway there then move your brake caliper out a little to match. i have done alot of them like that.
