Engine mount lug
« on: March 15, 2012, 02:58:03 am »
Had an engine mount lug break off and leak all the oil out on a 28 flatty. I was told I should only use three bolts to hold the engine down. But which three? I intend to replace the sump. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
If it has blades I'm not interested.

I have never heard to only use three bolts, I have heard that it is possible for the mounting plate to be warped causing the tabs to break off.  Many go through great lengths to ensure the mounting point of the motor is absolutely flat.  Another question, is your frame flexing?  This could cause the issue.
You never win a race by focusing on one aspect of the race!  Motor isn't everything, but you better have a good one!  Chassis too!  But remember, a driver can take a slow machine and make it faster!  I may not have/be the best of any of these but I'm trying!

YES, MOUNTING PLATE WARPED. THATS THE ONLY REASON WHY A MOUNTING POST WILL BREAK OFF.
