hubs and disc brake....
« on: March 01, 2012, 09:08:07 am »
I have a peerless 206 transaxle. What exactly do I need in order to add a disc brake to the back? Someone else posted that I have a 3/4" axle. I'm just not sure what I need. EC has hubs but that doesn't fix my no disc brake issue.

Here's something else I'm having trouble getting my head around. Right now the clutch and brake are all 1 pedal. I know when I go to a disc brake I'll have to add a pedal for that but how do I make the existing pedal a clutch only with the way it's set up now?

EC Sells a Brake hat, best way to go on a trans-axle.

If you are going to use the existing clutch set-up, you simply unhook the brake rod.

American Power Sports drum w/flange and hub kit for 1" is JUST as good as the E.C. Dis.. one and its cheaper price. the code is AZ2266  and you can bolt any disk brake to the hub even the ones from e.c. but if not here is a disk brake that goes with it APS 10 inch dia x 3/16 inch disc MCP710

Good prices and you save money  :) hope it helped

Many of the parts that folks sell are from AZUSA Engineering. Do an internet search for them and download a catalog. Then find a dealer near you. Northern Tool is one such dealer, so are many of the suppliers in our links section. If you see a vendor list the manufacturers part number and it is a AZxxxx chances are it is in the AZUSA catalog. Be aware that just because it comes from 'famous vendor.com' and it costs more, it may still be an AZUSA part the 'not-so-famous-vendor' is selling for less. Do your home work and save a few bucks.

If you have a Tractor Supply near you they have reducer bushings in different sizes. They are used on three point hitches and are around 2 or three bucks. Or look on eBay for top link reducer bushings.

On my 3/4" axle carefully welded the bushing on the axle and then I slotted the bushing for a key with my Dremel. My axle did not have a key slot where I needed the hub.

This was on a Foote transaxle that I had been warned that it may not hold up so welding on the axle was not a concern. On the first test ride the wire axle keeper came off and let the axle slide out so I went back in and welded the axle to the gear on each side. On the second test ride it made it about 20 feet and both shift keys busted. That was in third gear and NOT shifting while moving. I trashed the Foote and went to a Peerless 820 and found that it is was way heavier  built than the Foote.

I've always just gotten a 3/4 hub from tractor supply and welded a giant washer to it then drilled holes in the washer for the disc.  Never had a problem.

EC has a bushing to reduce our brake hat to 3/4 and we have made a key to fit it also. Only sold with our brake hats. Sorry.
