No you cannot, the tethered kill switch must be one commercially available. No homemade kill switches are allowed. About using the wiring, race mowers toss all of the factory wiring. You wouldn't want it setup on the seat anyway because sometimes you bounce up from the seat.

tanks right, you can buy them on ebay or ec for 9 or more dollars

Honestly, its easier to just strip all the wiring and make your own harness. Usually, you can reuse individual wires from the factory harness, just rid the other junk.

Thanks guys.....I wasn't going to keep that kill switch in the seat. I was just going to use the wiring basically and put another switch in the dash for it. I'll get one from ebay.
Tractor Supply good for carrying any parts I'm going to need like pulleys, belts, and what not? I shop there a little bit but it always seems that when I go there for something I leave empty handed.

I use the local Napa, and Ace/True Value.  The red Rotary brand belts have worked great for me, the blue belts from Tractor Supply (Oregon) have not had as good of results.
You never win a race by focusing on one aspect of the race!  Motor isn't everything, but you better have a good one!  Chassis too!  But remember, a driver can take a slow machine and make it faster!  I may not have/be the best of any of these but I'm trying!

Yes you can use that harness...or at least the wires.
But like Burwell said..it is easier to start over...do a search there are several threads with wiring diagrams.

The OHV singles do have a crank breakage issue if you get the timing advanced too far.
The first to numbers in a Briggs model # are the size in cubic inches of the engine. So yes you have a "31" .

As for the throttle debate..that is all it is. Some of the best use foot pedals, so no one can really say they do not work. I use a hand throttle, with the left pedal as a brake and clutch on the right. It boils down to personal preference. I thought I would like a foot pedal better until I tried the hand throttle. Get a good hand throttle from a bike shop or from EC and they work great.

Hand throttle.. A dirty harry is what I prefer. Have tried several types, atv, bmx, and so on. To me the dirty harry fits so much better. If the track,(or your mower) is really loose, you can slip a finger on the back side kind of as a throttle stop of sorts..  Just my 2 cents  CHUCK

ok....found the dirty harry at bonewco.com for $25 shipped. I'll order one tonight. What about the cable? I'm guessing just a regular bicycle brake cable but want to check before buying anything.

I see you mentioned using the bike brake cable. The cable itself is ok but the outter casing is too stiff and will cause your cable to hang. I found out the hard way. Best bet is to use the plastic kart brake line with compression fittings.

Thanks guys......I'd already thought about making my own flanges but if Napa or someone had them for a couple of bucks it'd be worth it over the time spent vs what I'd have into the plate and what not. I may have some plate out back somewhere but I don't think I have anything thick enough. I'm sure I can dig a small piece up somewhere. I'd also looked at the conduit for the pipe except I was just going to fill with sand and bend it myself.
