Command single 16.5hp
« on: February 23, 2012, 07:27:20 pm »
I am getting a good running 16.5hp command single, cv16.5 426 cc made in 1999. I need input on what you like and what you dont. I know its only 26 ci but can it run with the bigger briggs stock for stock and built for built? I will use it this year in an s/p build but may use as a supermod single or fx/fxt build next year depending on what i hear. So let me in....thanks, jim.

Yes, your right. I should clarify...local club has shrunk classes to reduce class gaps and offer more racers to run together....so national would be c/p. I see there is lots of expensive goodies for them coming out this year, but they seem pretty stout even for just 26 ci.

Let me know when you figure them out, Jim. I have several laying around. I was told they are better than the Briggs because of the pressured oiling system.

Will do Bob. Seems to have good power for their size. I am a little excited to try it out. I think im gonna start with just a billet flywheel and drop the governer for now.

Looked but couldnt find a thread about crank swap possibilities within the cv single series. Is there another cv single that has a shorter stroke to stuff a longer rod in these or is there a long rod for them that works with the current stock stroke?

When u check out the manual vs actual engines you will discover some ofthe engines are called cv16 cv16.5 cv460 cv465 etc. even if they are rated at say 16hp, some of the cv are longer stroke but smaller bore while the cv460 (cc's) have a bigger bore but a shorter stroke. Once you get to lookin at the manual, u'll see what I'm typing so fast to explain. Well at least it goes & sounds alright in my head.

Thanks everyone, good info so far. Was there a better year or head design that is preferred?
