balancer?
« on: February 15, 2012, 10:03:56 pm »
So i installed my new arc rod and a new cam. everything is aligned as it should be but the oil slinger is hitting on the balancer arm. i thought about gringing on it a little bit but figured i would ask if anyone else has had this problem before. and also if i grind something should it be the balancer or the oil slinger. i have not torqued down the rod yet but did tighten it down once i noticed it hitting to see if that would help but did not. also i have read  about removing the balancer and then others say removing it adds more problems than its worth. any advice would be appreciated
what do you mean it doesn't fit, did you use the hammer?

We are running motors with billet rods with no slinger on them. 24 oz of oil and works great. you dont want to sit and idle a long time. But these motors been running 2 seasons so far. My sons motor is running the balancer in it. Others here do not. Those the do not vibrate a bit and have had to make a bracket to support the carb. Ours with the balancer is smooth as glass and runs with the best of them and we turn our motor more than most 6500 to 7000

You trim it down to clear. I wouldnt cut it off. just make it clear. the ones here that do not have anything are not 390 rods. I cannot go into any more detail than that.

Corey,
The balancing shaft is there to balance below 3600 rpm. If you plan on racing it over 3600, then it's a worthless addition of rotating mass that goes against race engine building principals (high performance engine building 101). Remove the balancer and the bearings in the block and sidecover as well.
-Good luck.
