16hp Vanny Twin Throttle Set-up
« on: February 02, 2012, 08:20:38 am »
Hello,

I am really racking my brain on the return spring throttle set-up for my 16hp Vanny V-Twin. I don't know the best way to get 2 return springs attached at two different locations on the throttle. I am currently running the stock single barrel carb on the engine. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas or pictures of their carb set-ups to help with ideas.

Sometimes I use the original bracket that attaches to both cylinder heads. Remove everything but the throttle parts that is on this setup. Depending on the ratio of the throttle opening, I will sometimes weld a small tab on the pivot point at the point where the cable used to attach. This maybe sounds a little confusing but if you have the original bracket, study it for a minute and you will understand what I am trying to say. You likely want to weld the tab on for the attaching point just to slow the carb opening down. This also depends on how you attach the throttle cable at the other end. We only use foot operated throttles. Use the original rod to the carb and install your return springs on this bracket/linkage. It is very simple.

Thanks Garry. That makes sense what you are doing. However, what Is considered your two springs? I'm thinking oh the rules state, there needs to be 2 different attachment points on the lever that is on the carb. Is this correct? Do you have pictures of this I could see.

You could put a very light spring on the carb linkage itself, might have to make a bracket to mount it, and another spring on the bellcrank that oldfordman is talking about, you could put two on there pretty easy. Also I have one on my gas pedal too. Sorry don't have any pics, been a long time since I ran one carburetor.

There is a picture in the USLMRA rules.

This is what i do, you can see #1 spring going to the top braket and the #2 spring going down at the same place where #3 spring is for holding the choke, the cable hook is a spring sold by APS

This was a winter engine , the choke is removed now and i have a much bette cable hook up
