Good Engine for IMOW Class
« on: November 23, 2011, 09:28:47 pm »
I am new to this Sport and looking to build a mower to compete in the IMOW class.  What are the engines some of the top racers use in this class?

Briggs OHV and flatheads are probably the most widely used engine. If you are asking for a particular opinion on brand you will get lots of opinions.

Does Horsepower and Torque make a difference in this class too?  I have heard good things about Briggs and Kawasaki engines.

Kohler and kawasaki are the two torque monsters... briggs can hold their own but if I was to build another it would either be a kaw or a kohler... first one had a kaw and once you get the gov set you never have to mess with it again
There's somethin' in the works...

The IMOW and Super Stock rules state that we can run a 17hp engine, no specification on c.i.  I have access to some decent 15-17 hp engines, no Briggs though.  Does anyone know if IMOW or Super Stock classes will add the c.i. rule to them before the start of the 2012 season? I would hate to get an engine now and it not be allowed when the season starts.

do you have the Tecumseh 17hp?  ...they make big power if built right!

Does anyone know the answer to my question? I plan to start mocking up my mower between Christmas and New Years and would hate to have to purchase another engine before the season starts.
