Kohler Cross Reference Number
« on: November 11, 2011, 03:03:34 pm »
Anyone have a number for a generic spin-on oil filter for a CV23? It seems that if it says Kohler, John Deere or Briggs on it, the price goes up significantly.

I use the Fram #PH3614 on my Briggs. I do not know if it is same as the Kohlers though.

Bob, have you tried one of the ones for your vanny? I know that briggs & tecumseh will use the same.

Either Wix or Fram is the manufacture of the fliter for Briggs, Kohler, JD etc.  Once you have the Wix or Fram number I can get it in the generic/private label from them for half the price.  Just let me know.

If it's the same as a Briggs, Fram 4967 will work.  Also, the Protech 4967 from Oreillys, or the Super Tech 4967 from Walmart will work.  Been using the Oreillys brand this past season with no issue.

I just got lucky and picked up 3 Tecumseh filters from Tractor Supply on clearance for .99 cents a piece, spun right on to my Intek no problem.  So any Tecumseh filter should work as well.

I wouldnt recommend a fram filter. Ive seen a few race engines get cooked due to them coming apart on inside and restricting the oil flow. It wasnt a pretty sight. I know there is gonna be others that will jump in here and say they have been using them for years. It was not an accident either because Ive seen this happen on 3 occassions and every time we found the oil filter had came apart on inside. Just some food for thought.

ProTech and Super Tech are made by Wix.  Private label line and generic line.

Okay, after a little research, here's a list of all filter brands and part numbers which should cross over to a Fram 4967, or any Briggs, Tecumseh, and I believe Kohler filter(not positive on Kohler, but from what I read here should work), looking forward to trying some of these part numbers myself:
