She might want to sign some sort of agreement that they wouldn't hold anything that transpired at show an tell against her for the remainder of her school life either! It'd be the :censored: to be banned from school for life for a show an tell exhibit gone wrong!!

I'm thinking they are probably better prepared to handle radioactive than they are Darrin!

A little something I picked up, at the Mn. Build Clinic...

With the steering link coming out the from under the mower deck, and not being a "front steer" model (like my mid engine A/P)...

The only way to get true Ackerman steering (dual link) is to add a Bell Crank...

This also keeps the steering linkage tucked up and in the main deck area rather than hanging down under the axel, where it can hang up and be damaged in the ruts...

Time to start putting 'er together...

Built Sami's motor... S/S-J/P rules allow internal mods as long as motor runs a govener...

So Don Gienger built me a mild lift/long duration cam and Modified a Walbro carb...I did the porting and valve and spring work...replaced the rod with a 494504...honed and new rings...

Running a stock flywheel for "clutch" inertia on take off, should be a good running motor with solid torque...

Here it is on the break in stand...

Neat thing is..I brought Sami out this morning to start working on her ride and showed her the motor on the stand with the electric motor...

She said...."I know what your doing...Your breaking it in..."

How cool is that.. 8)

Sami put the chassis together and bolted on the fenders, tires and wheels...

I did the set up on the axel, chain and brakes...

Little tight in there, but all fits and rolls smooth..

Now we just need to add Gas and Electrics...and she's ready to fire up...

Then some lettering and a new seat...And she's ready to hit the track for the first "test runs"... :D

Biggest problem I see is lubrication from the chain will keep getting on the brake pads which will reduce the braking ability. It will be a constant battle to keep brakes once they have the lube in the pads its about impossible to get it out for the brakes to work properly.

It was for this very reason I wound up adding complexity to Pony Express.  The brake disk was just too close to the chain and sprocket.   I ended up mounting the sprocket on the opposite end of the output shaft.   The book says either side can be used as the driving end, and when torn apart both sides are identical, so I made the switch.

This also meant the chain didn't line up with the clearance slot in the transmission plate.  Oh well!   It just added some work to fabricate things on the opposite end.  I still used the chain tensioner that came with the plate though.

Haven't worked on it in quite some time, other more pressing matters came up.  Right now it's just about all back to the bare frame as I weld various components in fully instead of tacked in for checking purposes.
